Strong Skills Open Up the Whole Mountain
Devo athletes are grouped by skiing ability and development so coaches can meet them where they are and challenge them appropriately.
Throughout the season, skiers work with different Silver Run coaches, giving them the opportunity to learn from different teaching styles and skiing strengths.
And this isn't a day spent doing drills on the same run.
Athletes will explore the mountain, ski different terrain and snow conditions, work on technical drills, ski gates, spend time in the terrain park, play games, and get plenty of laps simply shredding with their teammates.
Along the way, they'll develop:
- Balance and athletic stance
- Edging and carving skills
- Pressure control
- Strong, controlled turns
- Body awareness and movement
- Confidence across different terrain
- Adaptability in changing snow conditions
Coaches will also use skill assessments, drills, and video throughout the season to help athletes see their progress and identify what they're ready to work on next.
Build the Skier Before Choosing the Path
Young athletes don't need to arrive at Silver Run knowing whether they want to race gates or ski big mountain lines.
That's what Devo helps them discover.
By developing strong fundamentals and exposing kids to different ways of skiing, Devo creates a foundation that can take them in multiple directions.
Alpine Racing
For athletes who love speed, precision, technical skiing, and the challenge of racing through gates.
Freeride
For athletes drawn to exploring the mountain, challenging terrain, creativity, and big-mountain skiing.
And for every athlete, the foundation built in Devo supports something even bigger: the skills and confidence to enjoy skiing for a lifetime.
When They're Ready, We'll Help Them Take the Next Step
Every athlete begins in Devo, but they won't necessarily follow the same timeline.
Throughout the season, Silver Run coaches evaluate each skier's technical skills, confidence, mountain awareness, and overall readiness.
When an athlete demonstrates the appropriate benchmarks, coaches can recommend moving into Alpine Racing or Freeride.
That means families don't have to figure out which program their 7-, 9-, or 11-year-old belongs in on their own.
Start with Devo. We'll help guide what comes next.
Devo + Nordic = Silver Run Combo Program
Young skiers can also combine Devo with Silver Run's Nordic program.
Combo athletes train with the Nordic team during the week and join Devo on the mountain on Saturdays.
Learning both Nordic and Alpine skiing exposes kids to different movement patterns, techniques, terrain, endurance, balance, and athletic skills. It's a fantastic way to develop a well-rounded young skier before specializing.
Combo includes:
- Nordic training during the week
- Saturday Devo
- Alpine and Nordic skill development
- A broad foundation for future progression
