History of the Silver Run Ski Team!

Silver Run started in 1939 as a local ski club.

It consisted of a group of avid skiers who like to socialize around skiing. The group was instrumental in the development of Red Lodge Mountain (our home hill). Since then, the club has come a long way, and are one of the longest standing teams in the US.

Our mission:

  • To Provide a quality, Team based skiing experience

Our values:

  • Community
  • Responsibility
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance

Our vision:

  • To learn the skills and joys of skiing
  • Improve overall wellness
  • Develop and build self confidence
  • Gain friendships
  • Develop an understanding of our interdependent world
  • Set and plan to accomplish goals
  • Learn productive use of time

The club has always supported ski racing, hosting many local club races. As the club grew and became more organized, the members began to foster youth skiing in the community. We are part of the Northern Division of US Ski and Snowboarding. Silver Run today is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. We offer youth and masters races, free ride, and nordic programs.

We have 11 board members, a Program Director, Head coach, Masters head coach, Freeride head coach, Nordic head coach, and multiple Part time assistant coaches.

In 2011 Silver Run expanded its programs to include a free ride team and a masters team. Both of these teams were started from the ground up and have been very well received. They are a thriving part of our club!

The Free ride team competes in IFSA and USASA freeride and slopestyle events. This program has blossomed under the direction of head coach Nick Gaddy, and other talented staff.

The Silver Run masters group has tripled in size since it was organized in 2011, thanks in part to the head coach Lisa Densmore Ballard. Today this group of skiers are great friends and loyal ski racers. They are a vital part of our team structure.

Recently, we have been able to add a Nordic Team to the club. In 2018, the Red Lodge Nordic team partnered and became part of the Silver Run Team, fulfilling the dream of having a Nordic Program! The Nordic team brought with them dedicated skiers and Coaches and has continued to flourish sense joining with us!

Today Silver Run is recognized as a pillar in the community of Red Lodge both on and off the hill. Our athletes, coaches, and board members are dedicated to the sport and to our mission.
